Sometime during last week a member of the order of Chivalry in the East kingdom made a really unfitting post on FB.
This was the response from the order:
"We, the undersigned members of the East Kingdom Order of the Chivalry, condemn the recent speech, made on social media, by a member of our Order, Sir Sichelgeita von Halstern (Sichel). As we, the members of the order, condemn these actions as unacceptable and see a necessity for consequences, we request that the Crown and Heirs of the Kingdom of the East Banish her from the Presence for this Reign and the next, or to hold a Court of Courtesy by request of this Order to determine another sanction.
At the urging of the Order, in addition to the above condemnation and request for sanctions, Sir Sichelgeita has expressed a commitment to:
Submit her regalia to the Crown until such time as the Crown determines she has made amends for these actions.
Author a detailed formal apology in the same space as the offence.
We Knights and Masters are not a monolith; we hold diverse social and political opinions. We also collectively place great importance on the modern freedom for individuals to speak their minds, but we accept that such speech is not free from consequence. The post by Sir Sichel this past weekend went beyond expressing her beliefs and extended into wishing harm on others. In that post, she not only failed to represent the Society, Kingdom, and Order as we are all called to do each and every day, but dishonored the Crown, Kingdom, and the Order of Chivalry through her words. We recognize that these unacceptable words were shocking and hurtful to all who read it, but particularly to families who have experienced such personal loss. We also recognize our obligation to act when one of our numbers so fails.
The Crown has seen fit to elevate us to the Order of Chivalry. This elevation carries with it an expectation of honorable conduct in all aspects of our lives. Our responsibility to carry ourselves in a manner befitting Peers of the East does not begin and end at an event, but extends to our modern lives.
We live today, in the modern 2020, which is an increasingly technologically connected world. We commit ourselves to conduct that befits a Peer of the East in our language and bearing, in person and online, regardless of screen name, page, etc. We commit ourselves to honest self assessment and to the improvements such assessments call for. Most of all, we commit to holding one another accountable to a standard that will allow both the Crown and the populace of the East to have faith in this Order."
It is also signed by many members of the order, and more importantly by the person who made the comment, that persons name is first on the list of signatures. As peers we are accountable for our actions, words etc, with social media there is no longer a veil between the inside and the outside. The idea of leaving values at the door can no longer hold true. (and yes there is a difference between the value of humans and "normal" political views)
